Death Note: Rewrite

Kate suddenly blinked, but her demeanor remained deathly calm. She said, "To be honest, I hadn't considered that." She sounded a bit perturbed the thought hadn't struck her. "Of course, you're right. I was looking for the fact that it seems like names play an important factor in this equation."

"As in, the names actually aired on public television?" Ferren supplied, pleased that he'd come up with something to irritate Kate.

"Television, internet, radio; etcetera." Kate answered, nodding. "Upon a graph I charted a few days before I contacted you to let you know to come here, I found that faces also play a role: a name and a face is what I've deduced. And your calculations bring about the possibility of a second Mori... curious."

Ryuk stated, "He likes you. What're you gonna do if he goes too far? You'd lose the eyes if you killed him."

"Too far? What do you mean by that?" She frowned and shook her head. "I'll have to comply, I won't close the eyes over a petty fight that we get into. I can't afford to have another Mori acting on rage because of it either."

"If he wanted to... you know. Your reproductive act." Ryuk snickered at her.

Lily stopped and stared back at him, honestly caught off guard and repulsed at the same time. She opened her mouth to speak, but seemed to think that what she had chosen wouldn't be right. She waited for a few more moments, before she mumbled, "If he isn't scared of the fact that I am Mori, then he should be scared of that fact of who my father is. He may be stupid, but he's not that stupid." She started back to her home, flustered by what Ryuk had said. 'At least, I don't think he is. I could be wrong, but that would be a... horrible thing to be wrong about.'

Ferren's lips curled into a smile. "Yes. Though, it is only a simple proposition. As with the rest of our current theories."

"My theories are solid unless proven wrong." Kate said firmly. "As is yours. As of right now, there's no reason to believe this isn't abnormal. So our theories might as well be abnormal for now."

Ryuk cackled with laughter and immediately broke off, asking her, "Can I have an apple?" Then he said, "Maybe he's not that stupid; but you never know with males like us." He was obviously teasing her.

Lily rolled her eyes. "He hasn't gone through my drawers and my sister's drawer like you, nor has he watched my sister." She said, looking up at him. "Half an apple."

Ryuk pouted. "Deal."

"I'll get it when we get home."

"I think you're out." Ryuk said innocently.

"Then tomorrow, it's getting late."

Ryuk stared at her, looking devastated.

"Tomorrow," she growled.

"But!" Ryuk said desperately. "But! But!"

Lily scowled at him, but walked into the house, closing the door and heading to her room. Her father had been waiting and frowned when she came in. "Where did you go?"

"Dad," she grumbled. "I just went out to dinner."

"With who?"

"No one." She sighed.

Ryuk went over and sat down through Lily's father, trying to disturb her and make her pay for not getting him an apple.

Lily scowled again, but her father tilted his head, obviously not noticing Ryuk. She shook her head and sighed. "It's okay, I just wanted to eat alone for tonight."

"Is it because of the Mori case? I'm sorry that I've been bringing it home with me."

"No, don't be. I just wanted to be alone."

"'I just wanted to be alone'," Ryuk mimicked in a nasally voice.

Lily stopped herself from flipping off Ryuk, and in effect, her own father and turned to the stairs. He sighed and shook his head, but didn't stop her again. She jogged up them and went to her room, locking the door behind her.

Ryuk sniggered to himself and floated up through the ceiling into Lily's room.

"No apples." She said as soon as she saw him floating through the floor.

"Lily!!"

Lily smiled and went to get the Death Note.
